House of Frames
Academic Design, B.S Design II
In this project, we were tasked with designing our dream villa, bringing to life our architectural fantasies as junior architecture students. The site, located in the suburban area of Kordan, Tehran, featured a steep slope and other unique contextual elements that guided the villa's layered design approach.
The villa embraces a "layer-by-layer" architectural concept, harmonizing with the challenging topography. Situated on the southern side of the site is a picturesque lake and a breathtaking natural landscape, which inspired the villa's orientation and spatial organization.
The formal concept of the villa centers around framing the natural surroundings. The design incorporates diverse yellow frames of varying sizes and levels along its southern façade, creating a dynamic interplay of views. These frames act as visual portals, offering multiple perspectives of the landscape, much like a series of paintings showcasing nature's beauty.
Collage, An artistic method for the architectural design process
The considerable part of this project was the process design; using collage as an artistic method to enrich the spatial and aesthetic aspects of the design. Architectural collage can play an important role in the concept of an architectural project. This is an opportunity for architects to find a better initial point for their projects instead of meaningless and volumetric concepts. An architectural collage is an artistic combination of photos and spaces represented in pictures that can be considered as an abstract of diverse parts of the project.
This kind of college can be regarded as an architectural painting, just like a cubist artist who observes the world from an extraordinary point of view without any routine perspective. Additionally, this painting is made of materials, colors, lighting, connections, and other aspects of an architectural project, and by interpreting them, we will be able to have a tangible understanding of our upcoming design and improve the quality of the spaces.
